Phase 1 Model Railway Layout Base
Let’s start looking at the actual construction.
Our method involves building the layout in 3 Phases, which more or less adapt to any type of model railway layout:
- H0 scale or N scale layouts
- Layouts based on Standard designs
- Custom-designed layouts upon request
- Small-sized layouts *
- Large-sized layouts, divided into 119×79 cm modules *
- Layouts supplied as wooden KITS
- Layouts supplied finished, with a rough finished landscape or just pre-assembled wood

Phase 1 Base / Framework Preparation
In our projects, we recommend building the layout by supporting it on a lightweight framework covered with plywood.
The framework can then be placed on trestles (sawhorses).
Once assembled, this framework is sturdy and lightweight; it can be lifted and placed vertically if needed (for example, to secure the wiring).

If you purchase a complete CSNetwork wooden KIT, it usually includes the framework, the plywood cladding, and all the other wooden parts required for Phase 2.
